View from front of the house

Listed in 'Alastair Sawday Special Places to Stay' since 2005.
The dreaming spire of Salisbury Cathedral is just a two-minute walk away, but the two guest bedrooms, overlooking a pretty flower filled courtyard, are so quiet you could imagine yourself in the country.
This elegant Georgian townhouse faces the Cathedral Close and is so central you can wander everywhere on foot, having parked by the house or walked from the station. All the cultural amenities of the charming medieval city of Salisbury are literally on the doorstep, as well as a wide choice of restaurants, bistros, wine bars and pubs.
Number 85, built in 1795, is Grade II listed, sunny, antique filled and has wonderful views of the 13th century cathedral spire, the tallest in Europe. Bedrooms are simple, traditional and attractive.
Salisbury makes an ideal base for visiting Bath, Winchester, Portsmouth, the New Forest and south coast. Stonehenge is only six miles away and the prehistoric stone circles at Avebury (a World Heritage Site) are easy to reach. The Iron Age fort at Old Sarum, spanning 5,000 years of history, is on the edge of the city and the Palladian Wilton House, with its magnificent art collection, is three miles away.

• Number 85 is strictly non smoking.
• All rooms have a private bath or shower room and television.
• Double rooms from £75; single from £55.
• Prices include full cooked breakfast with fresh fruit.
